When looking at motion pictures to stimulate our senses and get a great experience out of it they can also have a great and positive message behind them. Body positivity is something that can tingle your brain a bit since not all of us are looking like a front page of a magazine model.
Those kinds of images are purposefully placed in front of our eyes all the time to bring our self esteem down. Nevertheless when we are practicing self love and taking care of ourselves that can`t affect us.
Movies about body positivity are having pretty much the same idea behind them. They cherish all of the differences that we as an individual have. At the end of each movie like that, your acceptance of other people is increasing because you can also see their side of the story.
Often times they tend to inspire us to treat each other equally no matter how much different we are. This list is just my suggestion list of great movies about body positivity and by no means is final. So enjoy and have fun with them.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
This is one of the movies that you will watch in your life and won’t forget. Starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette, and Greg Kinnear the story is about a family going into the finals of a beauty pageant across the country in their van. Not only a comedy film but also a movie with a ton of positive messages about family, body positivity, love, and friendships.
This is one of those movies where you are having a big smile on your face through.
Gippi (2013)
This movie is about a teenage girl named Gippi and her struggles of becoming an adult. The moments of friendship, the crazy crushes, the best friends and the arch-rivals, the embarrassing moments, the effort to adjust to one’s changing body! Watching this movie will give you a glimpse of Gippi’s journey as she deals with it all.
A very relatable and down-to-earth movie without much Hollywood shining about it, in fact, it isn’t a Hollywood movie at all. Even though you are not a teenager going through that kind of situation, the movie gives you a quick memory of flashbacks about those times.
Muriel’s Wedding (1994)
Murriel lives in her own world of ABBA songs and is daydreaming about her rescuing knight in shining armor. So she can escape her hell of life starting with an abusive father, bad colleagues, and life in a small-town community. When the knight is nowhere to be seen Murriel takes a matter into her own hands.
This movie has everything you want from a movie. Bit of comedy bit of drama. You will laugh and cry until the move ends. This is not a movie about success and revenge…it’s simply the best tragic comedy about loneliness and being yourself produced in the 90s.
Time (2006)
This one is tough. A Korean art movie about a girl who undergoes plastic surgery to keep the man she loves in her life. It depicts insecurity in an endless cycle of life and relationships. The Time has a powerful message behind it and that is to love yourself is the true answer to finding real love. Otherwise, you will make the other person miserable because you’re miserable deep down inside.
It’s great mind-boggling movie about self love and self care that will expand your perspective of how important a quality self love in our life is.
Dumplin’ (2018)
From the best-selling book, we got the movie adaptation starring Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald. It’s a delightful movie about a mother-daughter relationship.
“Figure out who you are and do it on purpose” – is the motto that goes along with this movie. You will love how there wasn’t a bad guy or a mean girl, it was more realistic and more reliable to the real-life situations.
Life’s Greater Purpose (2010)
Very inspiring and uplifting Documentary about Nick Vujicic. It shows how much one can accomplish even with physical disabilities. Through the movie, you can see the positive message Nick spreads amongst a youthful audience encouraging positive self-esteem and purpose.
